*The days are numbered for illegal dumpers in COJ*

For too long, illegal dumpers have prospered at the expense of our City and the health of our residents and environment.

Some scrupulous operators would charge anything from R 600 to R 2000 for a load of waste to be collected and “taken care of”. This waste ranges from domestic and garden refuse to building rubble and even toxic waste.

Sadly, waste is dumped in open velds, parks and even into the river systems which in turn pollutes our environment and contaminates our valuable water resources.

Illegal dumping often takes place quickly. This makes it difficult to trace and apprehend culprits.

As a positive step in eradicating illegal dumping in the City, Johannesburg Metro Police Department’s By-law Management Unit (BMU) has initiated a Community Active Program which encourages residents to be actively be involved in eradicating illegal dumping.

I urge residents to take action when they see an illegal dumper in action by taking clear photos showing the culprit, the vehicle with registration number and the waste dumped and send the photos with the date, time and location of the dumping to our dedicated officer at BMU. We will, based on the information received, trace and prosecute the illegal dumper.

*Residents are encouraged to send their tip offs to Deputy Director Zed Mangaliso on Whatsapp or SMS - 082 779 1361. All tip-offs remain anonymous.*

Together with our residents’ help, we are certain that we can put illegal dumping in the City to an end.

Co operation between Cllr's in neighbouring wards is important. (25/01/2017)

This is Cllr Malcolm Maifala, he is ward Cllr for Brackenhurst & Brackendowns.

Often there are issues that affect us both.

Feeling really chuffed today, it's been 2 years since Glenvista Primary School opened and myself & Shadow MP of Education Khume Ramulifho have been fighting to get services to the school. (25/01/2017)

The problem was the dept of education, lost applications and such.

As of today we now have water supply to the school...........now to fight for electricity!
